Toshiba Recalls Over 100,000 Laptop Batteries

toshibaIf you own a Toshiba laptop, you might want to pay attention to this story. Toshiba has issued a recall for Panasonic battery packs that were included in its Portege, Satellite, and Tecra laptops. These lithium-ion battery packs are susceptible to overheating and can be a fire risk.

So Toshiba has issued a recall for over 100,000 units that power computers sold in the United States and Canada. If you have one of these it is best to stop using that battery.

Toshiba shipped these batteries with 39 models of the Toshiba Satellite, Portege, and Tecra notebooks. If you have any of those laptop you should immediately discover whether or not your battery has been recalled. If the battery pack number in the image matches yours then you can go here to follow instructions on how to remove the unit from your laptop. The units affected start with “G71C.” Toshiba will provide you with a free replacement battery.

Until your replacement battery arrives you can still use the laptop, just keep it plugged into the wall with the charger connected. No injuries have been reported yet, but Toshiba did receive four complaints of battery packs overheating and melting. It’s always better to be safe than sorry.
