The government of Odisha intends to establish an Oriya Chair at Banaras Hindu University (BHU) for teaching and learning of Oriya language.
the Odisha minister of higher education Pradeep Kumar Panigrahy expressed this desire when he called on the vice chancellor of BHU Prof. GC Tripathi on Friday. He was here to attend the programme of 81st Utkal Dibas (Odisha foundation day0) organised by the Varanaseya Utkal Samaj.
According to BHU spokesperson, during the meeting the Odisha minister said that the Odisha chief minister wants establishment of Oriya chair in BHU and academic collaboration between academic institutions of Odisha and BHU. He also expressed his desire for inking a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between BHU and Government of Odisha in this regard.
Welcoming this proposal the BHU VC said that it will be given a final shape as per BHU’s rules. He also apprised the minister of the establishment of Bharat Adhyayan Kendra on the campus in the centenary year of the university. The VC sought support of Odisha government in the research works on ancient culture and folk arts of the country. The minister assured the VC for all possible support and help in this direction.
